Treasury Department Releases Proposed Regulations on Opportunity Zones and Attendant Tax Forms

The Treasury Department on October 19, 2018 released proposed regulations related to the investment in qualified opportunity zones (“Opportunity Zones”). Designed to spur investment in distressed communities, the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act created powerful tax incentives for investment in Opportunity Zones, which have now been designated in over 8,000 areas throughout the United States.
